Brazilian Coffee Fazenda São Jose Natural

São José Natural coffee, produced by Marcos Antonio de Freitas, is a testament to his dedication to the innovative production of specialty coffees.

Marcos' journey began in 1963 when his family bought their first hectare in Santa Vargem. After graduating in agronomy in 1984, he gradually expanded the family business at Fazenda São José in Perdões, Sul de Minas. He now farms 320 hectares, of which 225 are dedicated to coffee.

Marcos bets on sustainable growth, using organic fertilizers and solar energy, and controls the entire production chain, from planting to processing.

For this natural lot, the beans are dried inside the cherry. Once dry, they are pulped and dried again until they reach an optimal moisture level.

Speciality Brazilian Coffee from a Family Farm

Fazenda São José is a coffee plantation located in the town of Perdoes, in the Minas Gerais – Sul de Minas region, northeast of Rio de Janeiro, the capital of Brazil.

The plantation is located at 950 meters above sea level, which, together with the terrain and the climate, which is cooler than in other parts of the country, create ideal conditions for the cultivation of Brazilian speciality coffee.

A family dedicated to Brazilian speciality coffee

The family of Marcos Antônio de Freitas acquired their first hectare to cultivate coffee in Santa Vargem in 1963. Marcos has witnessed how his family has gradually increased their plantation.

In 1984, Marcos graduated in agronomy and returned to the town of Perdoes, where his family had their plantation, with the intention of helping them.

Little by little, he expanded the family business thanks to his dedication and passion for coffee. Now Marcos cultivates 225 hectares in total.

Cultivation and processing at Fazenda São José

Marcos is committed to sustainable agriculture and is committed to sustainable growth. They only use organic fertilizer, a mixture of sugarcane bagasse and animal manure, and much of the plantation’s energy comes from solar panels.

Marcos is always researching new techniques to improve their coffee’s quality.

At Fazenda São José, they focus on the cultivation of specialty coffee. With the in mind, Marcos maintains control of the entire process, from sowing to processing and preparation for export.

The cherries are harvested and selected to ensure that only those that are at their optimal ripening point are processed.

For this natural lot, the beans are left to dry inside the cherry. Once dry, they are pulped and dried again until they reach an optimal humidity.

Brazil is the world’s largest producer of coffee. Coffee is an important part of Brazilian culture and economy. The specialty coffee industry in Brazil is growing rapidly, and the country is becoming a major player in the global specialty coffee market.

The history of coffee in Brazil began in the 18th century, when Jesuits brought the first coffee plants to the country. Coffee was initially cultivated in the state of Minas Gerais, and quickly became an important source of income for the Brazilian economy. In the 19th century, coffee had become Brazil’s top export product, and the country had become the world’s largest producer of coffee.

The specialty coffee industry in Brazil began to develop in the 1990s, when Brazilian producers began to focus on producing high-quality coffee. Brazilian producers have invested in new cultivation and processing techniques, and have developed new varieties of coffee that are adapted to the Brazilian climate and soil.

Specialty coffee farming benefits local producers because they earn higher income from their crops. This helps them to improve their quality of life. Specialty coffee is marketed in a way that highlights the coffee’s origin and sustainable cultivation practices. This also helps to increase awareness of the importance of specialty coffee and can help coffee farmers to get a fair price for their coffee.

Specialty coffee is also more sustainable for the planet than regular coffee. This is because specialty coffee is often produced with more sustainable cultivation and processing methods. For example, specialty coffee farmers often use more efficient irrigation methods and organic fertilizers. They also often plant trees and shrubs around their coffee farms to help conserve water and provide shade for the crops.

The specialty coffee industry in Brazil is growing rapidly, and the country is becoming a major player in the global specialty coffee market. In 2018, the Brazilian specialty coffee market generated more than $1 billion, and the market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 10% in the coming years.
