The Moka induction coffee maker Bialetti Express
The Moka induction coffee maker Bialetti Express is an update of the traditional Italian coffee maker, or moka express, invented by Alfonso Bialetti.
Alfonso Bialetti invented this coffee maker in 1933. At that time, there was significant development in coffee machines for professionals.
This Italian engineer realized that there was a need for a coffee machine that could offer results similar to those of professional coffee machines but could be used at home. Alfonso Bialetti designed and manufactured the first Italian home coffee maker.
He named it the Moka coffee maker in honor of the port of Moka in Yemen, one of the epicenters of the world coffee trade.
How a Moka induction coffee maker works
Italian induction coffee makers work similarly to traditional Italian moka coffee makers.
The coffee maker consists of three fundamental parts: the container for water, the filter for coffee, and the upper compartment that collects the brewed coffee.
Water is boiled in the lower compartment. When it boils, the water evaporates and passes through the funnel-shaped filter containing coffee. At the top, it condenses, leaving the prepared coffee.
The main difference between a traditional Italian moka coffee maker and an induction Italian moka coffee maker is the material they are made of, which allows them to be used on induction stovetops, unlike the traditional ones.
How to make coffee in an Moka induction coffee maker
Making coffee in an Italian induction Moka coffee maker is straightforward.
First, you need to heat the water in a kettle (we recommend doing it this way, although you could use cold water). Once hot, pour it into the bottom compartment, filling it up to the safety valve (and not more).
Then, fill the filter with ground coffee. The grind should be suitable for this type of coffee maker. Fill the filter entirely without pressing the coffee down and place it in the bottom compartment.
Next, screw the top part onto the bottom (with the coffee-filled filter) and place it on the heat source (in this case, an induction stovetop).
Wait for the coffee to start filling the upper compartment, and once you hear or see it splashing against the lid, remove the coffee maker from the heat.
