Bialetti Moka Express induction Italian coffee maker

The Bialetti Moka Express induction Italian coffee maker is an update to the traditional Italian coffee maker or moka espresso invented by Alfonso Bialetti.

Alfonso Bialetti invented this coffee maker in 1933. At this time, there was a great development in professional coffee machines.

This Italian engineer realized that there was a need for a coffee machine that offered results similar to those of professional coffee machines, but that could be used at home.

Alfonso Bialetti designed and manufactured the first Italian coffee maker for the home. He named it the Moka pot, in honor of the port of Moka in Yemen, one of the epicenters of the world's coffee trade.

How an Italian induction coffee maker works

Induction Italian coffee makers work similarly to traditional Italian moka pots.

The coffee maker is divided into three main parts: the container where the water is placed, the filter where the coffee is placed, and the upper compartment that collects the brewed coffee.

The water boils in the lower compartment. As it boils, the water evaporates and passes through the funnel-shaped filter containing the coffee. In the upper compartment, it condenses, leaving the brewed coffee.

The main difference between a traditional Italian moka pot and an induction Italian moka pot is that the material they are made of allows them to be used on induction cooktops , which is not the case with traditional ones.

How to make coffee in an induction Italian coffee maker

Making coffee in an Italian induction moka pot is very simple.

First, we need to heat the water in a kettle (we recommend doing it this way, although you can use cold water). Once it's hot, we pour it into the lower compartment, filling it up to the valve (and no higher).

Then we fill the filter with ground coffee. The grind must be appropriate for this type of coffee maker. We must fill the filter completely, but without pressing down the coffee, and place it in the lower compartment.

Next, we screw the top part onto the bottom part (with the coffee filter filled) and put it on the stove (in this case, induction hobs).

We wait for the coffee to start filling the top compartment and, once we hear or see it splashing onto the lid, we remove the coffee maker from the heat.
