Meet the producer

In the highlands of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, some of the world's most exceptional coffees are grown. Among them, Los Naranjales coffee stands out, a testament to tradition, hard work, and commitment to quality. This farm is part of the legacy of Francisco Morales, a producer who has dedicated his life to perfecting his coffee and strengthening his community.

A Family Legacy of Four Decades

Francisco Morales and his wife have been the proud owners of La Esperanza farm in Cipresales for more than 40 years. Like many other producers, the early years were a constant challenge, but thanks to their hard work and passion for coffee, they managed to transform their farm into a sustainable business that not only supports their family but also generates employment in the region.

The farm's name, La Esperanza, perfectly reflects the importance coffee holds in their lives. For Francisco, each harvest is an opportunity for growth and improvement. His curious spirit and desire to innovate have led him to adopt new techniques in wet processing and drying, resulting in several awards at Huehuetenango Highland competitions.

The Orange Tree Farm

Among the lands Francisco manages in the Cipresales microregion, Los Naranjales holds a special place. It was one of the first plots he inherited from his parents, and he has maintained the tradition of growing coffee there due to its ideal conditions. The presence of orange trees on the farm not only gives it its name but also enriches the soil and provides natural shade for the coffee plants.

Located at 1,700 meters above sea level, this farm produces Caturra and Bourbon coffee varieties, known for their sweetness and balanced body. The washing process employed by Francisco Morales enhances the clarity and flavor profile of the beans, highlighting notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut, and honey.

Innovation in Drying

This year, Francisco implemented a drying method under shade nets to ensure a more gradual process. This not only enhances the coffee's sensory attributes but also prolongs its shelf life, ensuring that quality is maintained from the farm to the cup.

The harvest at Los Naranjales is carried out with care, ensuring that only the ripest cherries are picked. The coffee then undergoes a controlled fermentation process before being carefully washed and dried. This meticulous process results in a clean and balanced coffee, with a natural sweetness that makes it stand out among the best in the region.

An Example of Commitment and Passion

Francisco Morales embodies the spirit of specialty coffee in Guatemala. His constant drive to improve and dedication to quality have led Los Naranjales to be recognized among the most exquisite coffees in Huehuetenango. In addition to producing exceptional coffee, his commitment to sustainability and the well-being of his community make him a benchmark for new generations of coffee growers.
